Riverside Baptist Church

About Riverside Baptist Church

It is our desire to exalt Christ Jesus our Lord in all that we do. Therefore, without apology, we preach the doctrines of God’s free and Sovereign Grace.

About Us

We are a small Church situated in the South Central Mountains of West Virginia near the Monongahela National Forest. The Church was founded in 1948. From the beginning , the Church has held to what are commonly know as the Baptist distinctives. The Church has in the past and still does claim the precepts of the New Hampshire Confession of Faith. It is our desire to exalt Christ Jesus our Lord in all that we do. Therefore, without apology, we preach the doctrines of God’s free and Sovereign Grace. We are committed to the directives of the Great Commission and therefore we press the necessity of the Gospel to all. It would be our delight to welcome you to any and all of our services.

Meet Pastor Seacrist

I was born on October 1, 1942, in a small coal community in the upper Kanawha Valley of West Virginia. I grew up with my parents and two younger sisters. Memories of my childhood are pleasant. Both parents laid a heavy emphasis on education, and it was determined at an early age that we children would attend college. Their aim was realized. Both parents were Christians, and we were exposed early to biblical teaching.

My father died suddenly during my third year of college. This was the beginning of a tumultuous time in my life. I came to know the Lord and was baptized in late May of 1963, married the love of my life, Suzetta, on May 31, and was called to preach in late July. I was called to Pastor the small Baptist church in which I had grown up in January of 1964. I completed requirements for a degree in Electrical Engineering in May of that year. I continued to Pastor while working as an engineer.

In January of 1965 I became the Pastor of the Gallagher Missionary Baptist Church (another small church) and continued there until October of 1971. It was then I was called to become pastor of The Riverside Baptist Church, left engineering, and moved to Richwood with my wife and three young sons. In time it became evident that the Church was not able to maintain the full support of a growing family. Eventually I became a teacher in the local school system. Along the way I earned a M. A. degree in Communication. I have since retired from teaching and am again able to devote full time to the service of my Lord.

It remains my aim to preach the Glorious Gospel of Christ my Lord. I have, from the beginning, believed and preached the Sovereign Grace of God, sought to honor Him and to exalt Jesus Christ in all, through the power of He, the Holy Spirit.

Questions?

We know going to a new church that you may have questions. We have some of our most asked ones listed for you.

What do you believe?

We believe that God is Triune and consists of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son of God and God, and the Holy Spirit. We follow the New Hampshire Baptist Confession of 1833.

How should I dress?

The important thing is knowing that a church is a family not a building. As a family we don't judge anyone on their appearance. Feel free to come casual or dress up if you would like.

What can I expect?

You can expect to be welcomed by our friendly church family and Pastor Seacrist. We will then begin with singing of hymns in praise to God. Then Pastor Seacrist will bring forth a Word from God based upon biblical teachings, not mans.

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."

Matthew 11:28-29
